Hello my name is Jane Doe

The article, Facebook: Editing Myself, had the most importance to me out of the reading assignments. Facebook is bigger now then what myspace was four years ago. Myspace was used on more basic level to let users have accounts based on interest(music, movies, friends, art, etc.). Today, people use Facebook for work, school, family, friends, relationships, anything! Companies post their advertisements on the main Home page tailored to individual interest. Businesses have pages to draw interest. The users of Facebook use their profiles to create virtual copies of themselves.
Mrigaa had information on her account that she would not want her students to see. She had her interests, music, books, ,and basic information to the tee. She had to create an account that would aim to please all the viewers. But the major point is, a Facebook profile is not going to please everyone. People lie about themselves, change and amplify themselves to create what he or she believes to be an ideal version of themselves. Then there are the users that post the drunken sloppy pictures of last nights bash.
Don't judge a book by it's cover, and don't a person by his or her Facebook.

  1. You make a valid point. There are those out there who do make themselves appear different on facebook than in real day to day life. Their life could be less than desirable so they have this page on the internet where they can be unique and make friends. They can say things they wouldn't necessarily say in the real world, which could be a bad thing. I think people feel as though they can hide behind a computer and are able to say and do whatever they want, but when faced with the issue wouldn't stand up to it. People are also judgemental and when they see such sloppy pictures or racey statuses. It gives you a negative image of said person. Like you mentioned, one needs to realize it's just facebook and should not judge. They may post what they like and if they choose not to view it they don't have to be your friend right?
